Privacy Statement

Your data is yours. Full stop.

We build software we'd want to use ourselves, and we do use it, every day. So it doesn't watch you, doesn't need to know who you are, and never gets between you and your work.

Our promise

Forensic Intelligence makes native apps for Mac and iPad. Every one of them is built on the same principles, and this statement applies to all of them: Remarque, Embroidery Studio, Structa, CartDeck, and anything we release in the future.

  • We never track you. Our apps contain no tracking code, and we don't build profiles of who you are or what you do.
  • You never need an account. There's nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. The only account involved is your Apple ID, which Apple uses to sell and deliver the app. We never see it.
  • Zero telemetry. Our apps don't collect analytics, usage statistics, feature counts, session data or crash logs behind your back.
  • Zero advertising. No ads, no ad networks, no advertising identifiers, no sponsored content.
  • Zero intrusive features. No push notifications, no pop-over promotions, no "rate this app" nagging, and no upsell screens.
  • No third-party trackers. We don't include analytics or advertising SDKs from anyone else, either.

We use the software we build. These are the apps we trust with our own documents, designs and data, and we hold them to the standard we'd expect as customers.

Your work stays on your device

Everything you create in our apps (documents, designs, databases, audio libraries, recordings and settings) is stored on your own Mac or iPad, in files and folders you control. We don't operate a cloud service for your work, and we can't see it.

If you choose to keep your files in a synced folder such as iCloud Drive, Dropbox or a network share, that service handles them under its own privacy policy. That's your choice, and our apps work the same either way.

When our apps use the network

Most of our apps work entirely offline. Where an app has an online feature, it's there because you asked for it, it's clearly labelled, and it never sends your work to us. Here is every case:

Remarque
No network access at all. Math, diagrams and every export are rendered on your Mac.
Embroidery Studio
Optional reference-image search sends the words you type to Wikimedia to find images; you can turn it off in Settings. Checking for new library designs downloads them from our website when you choose. The design assistant uses Apple's on-device model, so your instructions and voice never leave your Mac.
Structa
Connects only when you set it up to: sharing a project on your local network, sending webhooks to addresses you enter, or using the AI assistant with your own API key, which goes directly to that provider.
CartDeck
The Mac and your iPads talk directly over your local network. The optional Freesound browser sends your search terms to Freesound.

When a feature contacts another service, that service receives the request and your IP address, as with any internet connection, and handles it under its own privacy policy. We're never in the middle.

Permissions

Our apps only ask for access they need for a feature you're using, at the moment you use it. For example, CartDeck asks for the microphone when you record, Embroidery Studio asks when you turn on voice mode, and CartDeck asks for local-network access so your iPads can find your Mac. Recordings and audio stay on your device. You can change any permission at any time in your device's Settings.

What Apple shares with us

Our apps are sold through the App Store. Apple handles every purchase, refund and download, and never shares your name, email address or payment details with us. From Apple we receive only:

  • anonymous, aggregated App Store figures, such as how many downloads happened in which countries, which can't be linked to any person; and
  • crash reports, only if you've chosen to share them with app developers in your device's privacy settings. These contain technical details about the crash, not your documents or personal information.

This website

This website has no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising and no third-party scripts. It stores a single cookie, fi_lang, only when you choose a language, so the site can show you that language next time. It contains nothing else and expires after one year.

Like every website, the server that delivers these pages receives your IP address and the page you asked for, because that's how the internet works. We don't use that information to identify, track or profile you.

When you contact us

If you email us, we receive your message and email address. We use them only to reply to you, never add you to a mailing list, and never share them. If you asked us to let you know when an app launches, we'll use your address for exactly that. Ask us at any time and we'll delete your correspondence.

Children

Our apps don't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because we don't collect personal information through our apps, there's usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you've emailed us, you can ask to see or delete that correspondence. You also have rights under Canadian privacy law, including British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act, and under the laws of the country where you live.

Changes to this statement

If we ever change how we handle privacy, we'll update this page and its effective date first. We will never quietly add tracking, telemetry or advertising to an app you already own.
