Your music library, finally organized.
The free, no-strings MP3 tag editor for macOS.
Drop in a single song or your entire collection. Discographer treats both with the same speed, the same care, and the same respect for your files.
Drag in MP3 files, an album folder, or your whole library. Discographer scans recursively, picking up audio and ignoring the rest. Sortable columns, multi-select, and a familiar Mac table.
Pick one file, several, or none at all. Multi-selection shows the common value across files and only writes the fields you actually touch—no accidental overwrites of per-track titles when you fix the album name.
Drop in your own image, pick a file, or open the Find Online sheet to grab a high-res cover from Apple's iTunes catalog. Auto-Fetch handles every track in your list with deduplicated lookups.
First-class lyrics support, manual or automatic. Pull plain or synced (LRC) time-stamped lyrics from the open LRCLIB database. Stored as the standard ID3v2 USLT frame, recognized by every player.
Click Find Online and the search is already filled in: from the song's tags, or, if there are none, inferred from the filename. Edit the query before searching, or hit return to go.
Renumber a folder in one shot. Pick a starting number, choose digit padding, optionally include the total ("03/12"), and order by filename, date added, or current track number.
Reads ID3v1, ID3v2.2, ID3v2.3, and ID3v2.4—including unsynchronization, extended headers, ISO-8859-1, UTF-8, and UTF-16. Writes ID3v2.3, the format with the broadest player compatibility.
Every save is staged in a temp file then committed in a single transaction. Audio bytes are preserved exactly—only the tag region is rewritten. Padding is added so future small edits stay fast.
Sandboxed. No accounts. No telemetry. No tracking. The only network traffic ever is when you explicitly search Apple's iTunes API for cover art or lrclib.net for lyrics. That's it.
Every common ID3 field, properly handled. Bulk-editable, individually editable, fully revertable.
If you've ever opened a folder of music and wished it weren't a mess, Discographer is for you.

Discographer is developed by Forensic Intelligence, Ltd. ("we", "us", "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy.
Discographer does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. All edits happen on your Mac, to files on your Mac, in place. No data is ever sent to our servers or to any third party.
Discographer makes outbound network requests in two situations only, and only when you explicitly trigger them:
Cover art: When you choose Find Online or Auto-Fetch under Cover Art, Discographer queries Apple's public iTunes Search API (itunes.apple.com/search) using the artist and album you provide, and downloads the resulting album artwork image.
Lyrics: When you choose Find Online or Auto-Fetch under Lyrics, Discographer queries the public LRCLIB API (lrclib.net) using the artist and title you provide, and retrieves the lyrics text.
Both APIs are public, unauthenticated services. Discographer does not send personally-identifying information, account credentials, file contents, or anything other than the search terms you have entered.
Discographer is fully sandboxed under the Mac App Sandbox. It can only access files you explicitly drop into the window or pick from the Open dialog. Discographer never copies your files to the cloud, never moves them, and never modifies any file you have not explicitly added to the editor.
Discographer contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or tracking of any kind. We do not know who uses our software, how often, or in what way.
Discographer's optional cover art and lyrics features query Apple's iTunes Search API and lrclib.net. Use of those services is governed by Apple's and LRCLIB's respective terms and privacy policies. No other third-party services are used.
Discographer is a productivity tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
